Le bruit court à Wall Street sur l'éventuel rachat de Yahoo! par un groupe de média. Au premier rang : News Corp, le groupe de Rupert Murdoch, et Comcast (cable TV). C'est un rapport de l'équipe "equity research" de Merril Lynch qui est à l'origine du bruit : "We believe there are several trends that could push either AOL or Yahoo! Towards a major transaction, with each other or with another competitor. […] "In the past year, AOL has shifted towards an advertising-supported model, but is still losing significant share in search. Likewise, Yahoo's technology and revenue results have fallen behind Google, resulting in a lagging stock performance."
Autres scénarios possibles d'après ML :
- une fusion AOL/Yahoo!, the "most logical" selon la banque d'investissement
- un rachat des deux par Microsoft
Rappelons que Murdoch a racheté, il y a peu, le site de réseau social : My Space.
